"In my practice, my work is driven by the concept of duality and deep emotional responses which are grounded in reaction and interpretation of the visual dialog happening between patterns, colors, line quality, and brushstroke. Themes I often find myself drawn to are lived experiences of women, expression of individuality and emotion, environmental concerns and sustainability.
Pop art and Post-Impressionism are specific influences and with this combination of styles and techniques my practice aims to represent a historical legacy of “counter culture” within Fine Art; pushing against traditional representational realism and leaning towards a combination of graphic aesthetics as well as symbolic visual elements. These styles fit together to create a juxtaposition of light-hearted, whimsical characteristics along side contemplative subjects and themes. This combination, I feel, helps to make difficult subjects seem more palatable- while also giving permission for viewers to openly discuss symbolisms and meaning."
